These 4 signs will let you know if your vehicle needs a wheel alignment:

* The tires are wearing rapidly and unevenly

You can visually check your own car alignment. Take a coin and insert it in the tread at the inside, center, and outside of each tire:

* If the tread is deeper on the edges than in the center, the tire is over-inflated
* If the tread is deeper in the center than the edges, it is under-inflated
* If the tread is deeper on one side than the other, have your wheel alignment checked out.
* Run your hand back and forth across the tread to check for a saw-tooth wear pattern (tread is smooth in one direction, but jagged in the other). Have your car alignment checked as soon as possible as this condition causes rapid tire wear.

The car battery, basically a lead-acid storage compartment, is an electrochemical component producing voltage to the electrical components of the vehicle. When the battery continues to be recharged, it will give many years of service, preventing a premature car battery replacement. While cranking, the battery also supplies additional current more than what the alternator can supply, thus acting as an electrical reservoir.

The car battery requires precautionary measures while handling. The electrolyte (water) inside the battery is a mixture of sulfuric acid and water. Sulfuric acid is very corrosive and is dangerous if it gets in contact with skin or clothing. Batteries also emit hydrogen gas. A car battery is rated in CCA (cold cranking amps). This represents the current that the battery can produce for 30 seconds at 0 degrees before the battery voltage drops below 7.2 volts. An average battery today will have a CCA of 500. With the many different makes and models of cars available today, batteries come in many different sizes and CCAs. Even a maintenance free car battery requires periodic inspection and cleaning to insure it stays in good working order. Inspect the battery to see that it is clean and that it is held securely in its carrier. Some corrosion naturally collects around the battery. Electrolyte condensation contains corrosive sulfuric acid, which eats away the metal battery terminals, cable ends and battery cradles. If your vehicle battery is corroded be sure to clean it properly to keep the battery operating at its optimum efficiency.
